Year 4 English Autumn term

These are some activities to support the work your child is doing in English this term. Please feel free to ask or answer any questions at the bottom of the page.

Parents:
By Year 4 children should know that each beat in a word is a syllable:
one syllable = ball, dog
two syllables = shadow, open
Spend some time on investigating words with two syllables and see if they have double
consonants in the middle...tunnel, muddle.
Add new words to each list.

Parents:
A verb is a word (or group of words) which names an action or state of being:
past I ate, I have eaten
present I look, I am looking, I do look
future I will work, I will be working

IMPROVING VERBS...
The old man went down the path…
The old man shuffled down the path...

Notice how changing the verb from 'went' to 'shuffled' gives a clearer picture of what the man did.
