Year 2 Maths Autumn term

These are some activities to support the work your child is doing in Maths this term. Please feel free to ask or answer any questions at the bottom of the page.

Parents:
You can help your child best at the beginning of Year 2 by giving lots of practice, finding totals and giving change. You can do this mentally (in the car, on the way to school) or at home with a little play shop and real money.

By Year 2 children should
recognise all coins.
Use real coins to make these amount:
1. 40p
2. 55p
3. 33p
4. £1.62
5. £2. 83

Buy 2 dinosaurs at 15p each.

Can you give the right change from 50p? £1?

Parents:
Year 2 children should be familiar with telling the time to the hour on analogue or digital clocks.

Use a real clock or teaching clock to show 2 o'clock and ask what time it is, etc
Ask your child to show you 8 o'clock, 5 o'clock.
You can make numbers for your child to arrange as digital time (e.g. 3.00 when you show 3 o'clock).
